Curriculum for Upper School Yr3-6

Key Stage 2

The Upper School (7 - 11+) Years 3 to 6

Pastoral Care continues to be the responsibility of the form teacher but further specialist teaching is introduced. This is an excellent preparation for secondary school and means that specialist expertise is available throughout this important Key Stage. We greatly value the individual and believe parents desire the attention smaller classes can afford.

The curriculum includes English (including Library skills), Drama, P.E, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Religious Studies, French, Art, Design & Technology, ICT, Introduction to Latin, Personal Social and Health Education with Citizenship and Music. In Year 3 we also include recorders and chess within the curriculum.

We offer a broad, balanced curriculum with a supportive extra-curricular programme. This gives individuals the chance to develop talents and receive a well-rounded education for life.

THE UPPER SCHOOL NEWS & ACTIVITIES

Adventures in Northern France for Year 6, 24th-27th April 2012

Year 6 pupils from St Hilary’s School, Godalming escaped school and headed off to Northern France for an action packed four days. The group were based in Berck-sur-Mer where they were completely immersed in the French language and culture.

Stopping at Nausicaa in Boulogne, visiting a goat farm to make goats cheese and to milk the goats, a snail farm, attempting wheat plaiting and bread making, creating beeswax candles and producing individual lollipops at a sweet factory, the four days offered a diverse array of activities, as well as a more thought provoking experience at the Commonwealth War Cemetery in Etaples looking for graves bearing their own surnames.

Yr 5 Visit Hampton Court and Meet Henry VIII, Monday 12th March 2012

In glorious sunshine the Yr 5 children had plenty of time to explore the palace, including the courtyards, kitchens, the chapel and Great Hall. They experienced an hour long music workshop and had the opportunity to play the kinds of instruments that would have been played in Tudor times. A particular highlight of the day was an encounter with Henry VIII himself, who answered many of the children's questions and remarked upon how impressed he was by their manners!
