P.E and Games

Physical Education and Games feature highly at St Hilary’s. It is taught by three P.E specialists and a club swimming coach.  Although participation features highly, there are teams that take part against other schools and in tournaments within Surrey with a more competitive nature.

The PE department gives all pupils equality of opportunity to participate in a broad and balanced range of activities.  All pupils experience a variety of competitive and challenging situations.  Through enjoyable learning experiences, we hope to foster a positive attitude towards physical activity, an increase in self confidence and a feeling of achievement.  The Physical Education Department endorses whole heartedly the aim of helping pupils reach their full potential at St Hilary’s school.

In order to achieve these aims the physical education syllabus provides a balanced programme of activities that will give the children knowledge, skills and understanding in the five areas of study.

Netball
Hockey
Swimming
Gymnastics
Dance
Rounders
Tennis
Athletics
Football and Cricket for boys in Years 1 and 2

There is a House System with Inter House Competitions throughout the year.  A Swimming Gala and Sports Days involve all pupils.

St Hilary’s operates an all inclusive policy, participation in practices guarantees matches against other schools at some point in the term. The fixture list is full and varied; all girls from St Hilary’s have represented the school in at least one match per term from Year 3 – 6.  St Hilary’s compete successfully against IAPS events and against other schools. There are additional opportunities to participate in clubs such as Judo, Dance, Gym and Football.  The ethos is participation for all.

Facilities include: four netball courts, a grass pitch, and a flood-lit astro-turf pitch.  Swimming takes place at Broadwater Leisure Centre.  In addition, we have The Hiorns Centre, a multi-purpose building providing an indoor space in which match teas can be hosted.
